After years of fascination with altered states of mind (inspired by the work of Charles Baudelaire), the inimitable critic and thinker Walter Benjamin began to take hashish, opium, and mescaline in a series of nearly clinical sessions. His writings on the experience, finally translated into English, show his typically illuminating mind at work on a fascinating topic.
