Beaufort

In Ron Leshem`s award-winning debut novel, an Israeli Lieutenant and his thirteen soldiers are stationed at the crumbling castle of Beaufort, a relic of the crusades, in hostile southern Lebanon in the days before the Israeli withdrawal in 2000. In the spirit of Tim O`Brien, the novel captures the vitality of the soldiers` personalities, the twisted comedy of their days, and the final tragedy and futility of their war.
